Greetings oldschool58,

Thanks for reaching out, and we are happy to see how we can help in Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you are wanting to use your iPhone’s Personal Hotspot for the printer to connect to a wireless network, is that correct?

You posted your question from the article If Personal Hotspot is not working on your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi + Cellular). Have you tested the connection to anything other than your printer, and it’s not working? If so, this is a feature provided by your carrier, who you would want to reach out to.

For your printer, that’s going to depend on the printer itself and the technical specifications. Take a look at Connect an AirPrint printer to a Wi-Fi network. It goes over the steps needed to use your iPhone and printer for use on your wireless network.

Reach back out if we can help further.

Cheers!

Thanks for the fyi on 5g and 5ge. ATT has always been “difficult”. I did not choose the xr. It was sent to me by att as a “free” yet “certified preowned” phone to replace my working 3g iphone 5c because they are upgrading their network.

Tech support relies on programmed computer answers which were useless.

The “free” phone cost me hours of my life.

Looked at the link and with other research I had been doing and my hp printer can speak with my 5g iphone xr.
I can now graduate away from dialup.

ATT kept having me do phone resets and never “connected”the issue. Sorry for the pun.
Thanks for your assistance.

You have a truly amazing XR, because the XR does not have a 5G radio in it. Only the 12 and 13 can support 5G. Did you add the 5G chip yourself, or did you find a shop who could do it?

BTW, if the phone displays 5Ge, that is not 5G. That is a marketing scam by AT&T to trick users into thinking they have 5G in a phone that can’t support 5G. It’s actually just slightly faster LTE.
