The disappearing reaction on IMessage

Sender & Receiver both react to same imessage (Like/Heart etc). Minutes later when checking the message, the sender’s reaction is gone but receiver’s is still there. There is no notification that any has been removed. Question - is it possible for the receiver remove another person’s reaction? Both sender & receiver are usually on the same Wi-Fi network. It’s rather odd and it’s been happening almost 90% of the time for the past 6 months.

Hello Patcav111,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. Upon review of your post, it seems that you are experiencing some odd behavior with your Messages app on your iPhone. We can see why you’d want this taken care of, so let us help from here! Let’s start by reviewing the following article which may help: Use message effects with iMessage on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. You are only able to remove your own Tapback reaction to a message, when you tap the small icon above the message itself, not another person’s Tapback reaction.

Please let us know if you have follow up questions, so we can continue assisting. Take care!

That's definitely unexpected behavior, Patcav111. If you do this with other people's messages (as in, not liking your own comment. but liking someone else's comment), does this continue?

Also, make sure to try the following steps which can refresh things and make sure the iPhone is running at its best:

1. Restart your iPhone

2. Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

3. Close an app on your iPhone or iPod touch (Close the Messages app)

Let us know these results and we'd be happy to investigate further! Have a good day.

Hi Eric

Ah yes thanks. The odd behavior seems to be circumventing this, as usually only the reactor can remove his/her own reaction. From what I’ve seen, literally within minutes, my reaction disappears. The sequence for example is 1- I post imessage for example, “that was great football game” and then I “like” it. 2- Receiver then “likes the same message 3 - the message shows 2 likes on top of each other. 4 - Then leave phone/iMessage alone and go about my day etc etc. 5- Look back at that iMessage and now it only has 1 “like” (the receivers). My “like” has disappeared.
