Safari 15.1 option to chose show tab icon missing on safari prefernece

From the screenshot you provided, it appears that you are in the Tabs tab. At the top of the window, just to the left of Tabs there is a gear that says General. Click on that and then follow the remaining steps previously provided which should help you display your Favorites.

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that you would like your Safari Favorites bar to show your favorite websites. Right?

From Safari > Preferences, click the General tab and you should see Favorite shows with a selection option. That is where you'll choose Favorites. Also, make sure that you have selected Show Favorites Bar from the View dropdown in Safari. Add websites to your Favorites in Safari on Mac is a great reference for these settings as well.

From the screenshot you provided, it appears that your Favorites bar is set to show favorites which is what we understand is your goal. Next, try this. With your Safari window open, click on View in the menu bar, then 'Show Favorites Bar'. If you see 'Hide Favorites Bar' you have already enabled it. The article we shared previously, Add websites to your Favorites in Safari on Mac, has a screen capture that shows how your Favorites bar should then appear.
