If I start a screen recoding in QuickTime on my MacBook (Monterey) there are no controls. A stop button appears in the menu bar but no pause option. I have tried various suggestions from a web search (eg pressing Option key) but nothing works.

Any luck finding a pause option or do we have to accept Apple removed this option, no combination of keys brings up a pause option when screen recording in this current version of Quicktime Version 10.5 (1110.4.21), I am on an M1 MBAir running Monterey
It used to be easy to pause recording on QuickTime. When you pressed Escape, the little black control would pop up. Every video I watch to fix this shows the same. It doesn't show up anymore. Not sure if it is due to a change to QuickTime or the operating system. Please fix!
No, I've looked at those already, they don't help.
No, no solution to this. I don't know if it was ever possible as I've only just started doing it.

Just to confirm, have you been able to pause a screen recording in QuickTime Player in the past? If so, when did you first notice this change?
Does the issue only happen with screen recordings? In other words, are you able to pause other content or movies in QuickTime Player without an issue?

Thanks so much for clarifying that this is only happening with screen recordings.
When screen recording, you can stop a recording using the Stop button. You mentioned that the Stop button does appear; if you select the Stop button, does that stop the recording successfully?

I've never tried before. No problem with pausing normal video recordings or playback, it's only screen recordings that are affected.
