Mac doesn’t recognize iphone

My Mac recognizes my iphone for photo downloads, but does not recognize it in iTunes and does not see it in Finder. It also does not see it on the USB port in System Information. Mac and iphone have both been updated with latest IOS. I want to place some music from my library on the Mac onto my iphone but have not been able to do it. Any suggestions?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 10.15
