How to go back to previous site while retaining existing tab.

How do I go back to the previous tab without loosing the tab I'm in. Happens in a search where I select a page from a google search, go to the selected page and then would like to return to the search page but retain the first page I selected. Thanks

I’ll select and copy the current URL, click + for a new tab, paste and go, and then switch tabs and back up. Ugly. But works.

You can also potentially pick up the old tab by closing the entire tab, and pressing and holding the + key, and opening the old tabs from there.
