Switching to new iphone

I have upgraded my iphone and received a new SIM card (o2 - haven't changed carrier, just an upgrade). Am I correct in thinking that a new SIM card will not give me a different phone number and once inserted, I can just restore from my icloud account? Nervous about losing data, photos etc and I do not want a new phone number! thanks.

carriers only change ones phone number at your specific request, of cause I never used o2 so if they have rules of randomizing customers phone numbers I would not know about it.
