Check your chord for the USB, replace if necessary. Any other computer you could try to access it with? Do not use a Hub, Monterey does not play nice with hubs.
Click on Finder in the Menu Bar, then Finder Preferences, go to Side bar and click on External Disk. Then look in Finder from the Dock.
Thanks for the response, but I don't seem to have the same options as you described. Are you running Monterey? I don't have a Preferences option in the sidebar from Finder... I'm a newcomer to the Mac environment.
A search on this forum and others will give you a surprising answer. There are all sorts of problems that have not been ironed out with Monterey. Check out the following other Mac Forums:
Only issue I see is some non powered docks with MBA. I see no powered hub issues with Desktop units. Maybe I'm just lucky. I have a Mini M1, MBA M1 and iMac 27" running Monterey and my docks are rock solid.
I use a non-powered hub, but, all three items plugged into it are powered externally, including my Epson Printer, Bluray disk player and a Maxtor 2TB external HD for Time Machine. No problems there.
Thanks Bob, I found the right menu items and made sure the right things were checked, but my SSD still doesn’t show as available… Maybe I somehow damaged the contacts on the SSD?
What year model is the Mac Mini?
What model is the Satechi Dock?
What SSD are you trying to use?

Thanks for the warning, I’m guessing it might work for the extra connections, but not the external SSD?. I quesadilla I’ll be using it for something else.
I guess,
not quesadilla, LOL!
I have two different Hubs with my Mac Mini and no issues. Why do you state an issue with Monterey and hubs?
That is in Finder in the top left of your screen in the "Menu Bar", not the Finder in the "Dock." Yes, I am running Monterey. It should look like this:
