Apple watch timer

Since the most recent OS update, my timer on my watch stops the audio on my airpods. I am using a 30-60 second timer for intervals at the gym, so this is annoying. I have checked the timer settings and I do not have it set to ‘stop playing.’ I have tried to put the watch on airplane mode, no success. I tried rebooting both watch and phone and that worked for about an hour then I switched to a different audiobook and now my audio stops with the timer again. I am going to try to find a 3rd party timer app, but this is so dumb. Any tip? I have scoured the past threads and this seems to be a common issue without a great solution.

I agree. I like the AirPods but tempted to go back to other brand. Would be interested to know if you had these issues before the last update to iOS and/or watch OS. I got the AirPods after so don’t know what it was like before with them. Thanks

The problem didn't get fixed. It only works when I'm at home. I can be listening to a podcast with Airpods Pro and have a workout going on the watch and a timer on the watch and when the timer stops the audio continues. However, If I do the same thing at work or at the gym then the audio stops. If its an apple app then it will resume when I stop the timer, if not, then I have to go in a start it up with the app. What is the explanation for this? why would it work at home with no problems but not anywhere else? Hoping that this can just be fixed in the next update, because really, the audio should just play and the watch should di its thing.

This was happening to me too. I recently switched from 3rd party earbuds to new AirPods Pro and anytime the watch timer would finish Apple apps would pause until I stopped the timer and it’d resume. 3rd party apps would stop and not resume. I’d have to go in and restart the app. I was about to give up and go back to old earbuds because I expected more from Apple AirPods Pro.

however, I just checked my old 3rd party earbuds and it worked for them. Then I checked some AirPods 2 and it worked. I finally checked the new AirPods Pro and it worked. Not sure what happened but it’s fixed temporarily.

I can force close and reboot everything then restart with a new custom timer and it will work for awhile, sometimes through the whole workout, sometimes just a while. It’s maddening. I’ve tried turning off the watch blue tooth and every other suggestion. I am also using a 3rd party audio app on my phone/ airpods, but when my watch vibrates I don’t need my audio to stop permanently….
