Synchronize clips not working in Final Cut Pro

"Synchronize Clips" is not working properly. Usually I select the audio and video clips that I want to sync, select "Clip < Synchronize Clip" and voila, it's synced at the right places.

Now when I do the above, it merges audio and video at the beginning so NOTHING is in sync. It just started doing this a few days ago. I've been using it for months with no issue and now it's not working. I've searched in Google over the last few days and have found no solutions.

Can anyone help? I'm using FCP 10.6.1.

Thanks!

I don't know if this will help in this situation but whenever FCP begins acting strangely an easy thing to try is resetting the preferences. Hold down option and command when launching FCP and select Delete Preferences. It will dump a zip file of diagnostics onto your Desktop which you can trash and then it will open the default Untitled library. Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences back to the way you like them (turn off background rendering, etc.) and see if the issue has been resolved.

If you double-click the multicam you are taken into the angle editor where you can adjust the timing of each of the angles. Most likely the angle on top is the video clip and will be the "monitoring angle." You can tell because the little monitor and audio icons at the top left of the angle are enabled. The next angle below is the audio only clip. If you select the audio angle then click the little pop-up menu and tell it to Sync selection to Monitoring Angle, does it move it into sync?

Yes they are from the same take. The video was recorded on my camera with audio and the audio was recorded separately with a lavalier mic. I would usually edit the audio to contain only what I want and sync it with the video. Then I would put the sync clip and the original clip in the timeline and fill the dead space (usually the first few and last few seconds of the video) with the video audio and use the sync clip audio where it merged.

When I created the multicam clip, it did the same thing as when I synchronized...merged the 2 files incorrectly with the audio from the lavalier mic totally out of sync with the video by starting at the beginning of the video rather than a few seconds in.
