Synchronize clips not working in Final Cut Pro

"Synchronize Clips" is not working properly. Usually I select the audio and video clips that I want to sync, select "Clip < Synchronize Clip" and voila, it's synced at the right places.

Now when I do the above, it merges audio and video at the beginning so NOTHING is in sync. It just started doing this a few days ago. I've been using it for months with no issue and now it's not working. I've searched in Google over the last few days and have found no solutions.

Can anyone help? I'm using FCP 10.6.1.

Thanks!

I don't know if this will help in this situation but whenever FCP begins acting strangely an easy thing to try is resetting the preferences. Hold down option and command when launching FCP and select Delete Preferences. It will dump a zip file of diagnostics onto your Desktop which you can trash and then it will open the default Untitled library. Reopen the library you were working on, set the preferences back to the way you like them (turn off background rendering, etc.) and see if the issue has been resolved.
