purchased songs downloaded from amazon playable on apple music app?

I have about 600 songs purchased from Amazon music on my iPhone Xs. Amazon music app has become such a hassle to use when I just want to play my own purchased music that I’m looking for another way to play it.

With my first iPhone, I purchased one song from Apple iTunes. I purchased some from Amazon. Amazon’s app would play Apple tune but Apple’s app wouldn’t play anything I bought from Amazon, so I chose to buy from them.

Today I can’t listen to the songs I purchased from Amazon because the Amazon music app is having problems and won’t let me, even off-line, which is how I always listen to it. The app is not recognizing my password—which it never needed or asked for before—and so it won’t let me access my music, even offline. That’s neither here nor there, but I’m just explaining. I’ve wanted a new music player anyway because Amazon’s is an increasing hassle.

So my questions are:

Is there any way the Apple music player can be adapted to play songs downloaded from Amazon?

Are there other apps that play songs that were purchased from Amazon?

I’m thinking this: if Apple wants to convert Android users to Apple, how can it do that if their products/software refuse to play the music that Android users have invested in? If someone has $1000 worth of music from Amazon, that person would be hard-pressed to change to an iPhone if they have to give up all that music or buy it all over again from Apple. But everything I read at the App store says it plays music you purchased from Apple.

Do apps like Spotify play purchased music?

Sorry this is so long. I want a music player that will play the songs I downloaded and own. I’ll happily buy it, but I don’t want a monthly subscription.

Thanks for any help.

I’m an ios version behind, if that’s an issue, because I don’t have wifi anymore and can’t upgrade without it. I can’t afford cable service right now and I don’t have an Apple computer either, so any advice that requires that won’t help. (Just don’t see why I can’t upgrade on my phone service; it seems to me that Apple is saying, “If you can’t afford cable, you can’t afford us.” The old “If you have to ask, you can’t afford it.” Well, I have to ask.

Thank you to whoever might know an answer. Happy holidays, whatever your creed.

Hey BKacy,

Thanks for following up with us! You mentioned wanting to play music from Amazon on the iPhone. It seems the only way to do this would be through the Amazon Music app if the music is only currently stored on their servers: ‎Amazon Music: Songs & Podcasts on the App Store.

You wanted more information about syncing. Syncing would have been helpful in the case where you have downloaded the music files to the computer. If you had the physical files on the computer, you could sync them to the iPhone. You can do this with a PC computer, as an Apple computer is not necessary for the syncing process.

Let us know if that clears things up!

Hey BKacy,

It sounds like you have some concerns with playing third-party music in the Music app on your iPhone. We can help discuss this.

While you can't play streaming music from other services using the Music app, if you own the music files and they are downloaded on a computer then you can sync these to the iPhone and play them with the Music app. Here's how to do this: Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer - Apple Support. This does not require a subscription service.

Let us know if that answers the question for you!

Hey BKacy,

Thank you for letting us know the MP3 files are currently downloaded to the iPhone. If the downloads are in iCloud Drive, you can play them directly from the Files app if you tap on it. If they are stored somewhere else on the iPhone, you may be able to tap on them to play.

However, if you want to play them in the Music app, you will need a computer, as you would need to place the MP3 files on the computer and then sync them to the Music app to be stored there: Sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod using your computer - Apple Support.

Hope that clears things up!

Thanks, Carina. As I said–I don’t have an Apple computer. I have an old pc laptop I haven’t touched in about 3 years. It’s not hooked up to anything because I don’t have cable/internet service now.

I’ll go through the information on the link you provided and see if anything will work.

At first glance, it didn’t look promising. What a hassle this is. Do you know of any third party apps that work on the iPhone and will play Amazon music/songs?

Thanks for answering.

Oh…and one more question: what does “syncing” with a computer have to do with playing the music files that are already on my phone. I don’t see what connecting them to another device has to do with making Apple music App play the Amazon files. Does it play any files other than the ones purchased directly from Apple? That answer will help. And no, I’m not looking for a way to stream anything. Just another app to play the ones I have—and not via Amazon at all. Thanks.

The music files are NOT streaming.

I am not subscribed to a streaming service.

The files are downloaded directly to my phone. They are purchased—song by song or whole albums—NOT from a streaming service.

They are MP3 files.

I play them from my phone via a speaker via bluetooth.

I do not use a computer.

I don’t need to sync anything at all.

I don’t want to sync anything.

My question is not about syncing.

Can an Apple/iPhone music app play them?

If so, can you tell me how?

Thank you.
