Watch notifications not syncing

despite making sure notification settings for messages mirroring my phone and doing a total reset of my watch, my message notifications on my watch won’t sync to my phone at all. My phone has no unread messages and my watch has 55 and counting.

Apple Watch messages My Apple Watch messages will not sync with my phone. I have to physically review every message on my watch in order to get it marked as read on my watch. If I view a message on my watch, it will be marked as read on my phone. Is there a settings I can change?

Messages not clearing off apple watch after being read on phone. Just got a new apple watch series 6 and set it up last night. Everything was running smoothly and now today I noticed after I read my text messages on my phone they are not being cleared from my watches notifications. I have already made sure all updates are done on both devices as well as restarted my iPhone. Any idea what my next step should be to remedy this solution? I have it set up to mirror my phone.

Removing my number from messages on my phone and then adding it back seems to have fixed it.
