Fully charged and reset my AirPods 2-3 times. Still only playing in right ear.

Left works fine if I put it in first and start an audio source. But as soon as I put the right one in left stops playing. Both pods have same charge level. Help?!

More detail ... this only started yesterday. They have worked flawlessly on my MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and iPhone 8 for over a year. Just started doing this yesterday after a marathon webex meeting that completely drained them. I charged both pods in the case, but even once they reached 100% only the right one would play. Did the full reset, but no change. Fully charged pods and case overnight. They worked fine this morning for a few hours but I was surprised how quickly they gave the audible tone for needing a recharge (only ~2hrs of talk time). Recharged fully in the case but when I tried to use them again, sound only plays from the right. Did the reset again, same thing, If I put only the left ear in it plays just fine. As soon as I put the right ear in, left stops playing. Both pods at same charge level ~96%.
