iPhone 13 Pro camera issues

I've noticed various issues with the iPhone 13 Pro's main camera. First, it randomly blurs everything (like setting focus manually to 0 or focusing really close to a subject). In this state it won't change focus even if I tap on the screen to change focus. It even highlights faces being all blurred and still won't focus on the faces. Closing and re-opening the app fixes this momentarily.

Sometimes this issue happens when using 3x and tapping to focus (it auto-switches to main camera and fails to focus anything).

I've also experienced focus hunting with subjects at a "medium" distance. The focus would shift to the background and back to the subject rapidly and nonstop. I must say that I've only experienced these issues at night, indoors with artificial lighting.

Finally, when comparing the main camera with my previous iPhone X, I've noticed that the X has more detail. The 13 is better overall in dynamic range, low light performance, etc... but X seems clearer. And the X can also focus closer with the main camera; the 13 can technically focus even closer with ultra wide, but the quality is worse compared to the X main camera.

Hello there LuisCast18,

I understand you've noticed an issue with the focus on your iPhone 13 Pro, so let's check a few things.

First let's confirm that you're up to date with the latest iOS version to be sure that's not related to what you notice. If you do have an update available, let's be sure that you have a current backup. If you need help with either of these steps, check out the following resources:

How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Once you've confirmed you are up to date, check through the steps under the section labeled "If the camera isn't working" of the following resource to see if they clear this up for you at all:

If the camera or flash on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch isn't working

If these steps don't clear this up, you'll want to Contact Apple Support to look into this in more detail.

Have a great day!
