Apple Maps (iPad) only displays a grid

Apple Maps on my iPad Pro with updated iPadOS shows grid only. It shows my GPS location. This applies to Find my Phone, WeatherBug app, Yelp, Zillow, Realtor.com, etc. I ran the normal troubleshooting circuit, and then phoned Apple tech support, got my case escalated to an excellent senior advisor, who ran me through the paces again. I stopped the exercise when she admitted that there is no known repair but for Apple to issue an update.

Does anyone have any idea what else to do but wait?

Syncing is Likely Slow:

It's likely not keeping up with the syncing. So, try clearing space, by deleting large files (i.e. TV Shows and Movies).

Report this to Apple:

Do your part: Let Apple know what is going on here. Provide them with feedback on this. They may not get back to you directly, but the more feedback they received on this, the more they will know what is going on, and what needs to be fixed in updates to come.

  1. Go Here: Feedback - iPad - Apple
  2. Comment: On when you came across this issue, and how you have troubleshoot it thus far
  3. Select: "Bug Report" for the "Feedback Type"
  4. Proceed from there aw necessary

Did you really do the force restart thing or just switch Off and On?

Maybe your Wi-Fi Internet connection is weak?

Try

  1. Go to Settings  > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset.
  2. Choose option: Reset Network Settings

Anyway, just tested I have no issue using Apple Maps with my 3 iPad Pros 12.9 inch (1: 2nd & 2: 3rd generation) running iPadOS 15.1.

Also tested on iPhone 8 Plus. iPhone XS, XR and iPhone 12 Pro with no issue.

I don’t think it’s a memory issue, as there’s 36.6 GB available. I am going for the bug report, and appreciate the suggestion.

For what it’s worth, I have found discussions of this issue on iPhone, iPad, and on the macOS. I found reports talking about the grid problem dating back to 2017. Frustrating.
