New MacBook Air, DVD Player (Apple Accessory) is not working.

Just purchased new MacBook Air (30 Nov 2021), using a USB hub and a USB C adapter, neither is working with the Apple DVD/CD-Rom. Suggestions?

• When using the hub, I get error messages claiming the CD-Rom/DVD player needs an external power source.
• When using the USB C adapter, the OS recognizes the player, loads the player, but you cannot play anything from the player.

Any and all suggestions are welcome. I need this resolved quickly.
