I just bought a brand new Mac book pro ..
And it can not play movies rented in your own imovie store (HDCP format.)????

First of all. Thank you to the people who took the time to try to help.
I found a solution to my problem.
In the display setting, - for the main display, - switch the High Dynamic Range to on.
And then it worked!

HDCP stands for High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection.
How are you trying to view the media?
Sounds like you are using other than the MacBook Pro's screen.
The HDCP is to help prevent copying the media and the method you want to view it is not HDCP compliant
I had an occasional problem with macOS telling me that primary monitor was not HDCP compliant (which it is). An SMC reset seemed to resolve the issue in my case.
