Apple Watch 7 keeps locking

Purchased a series 7 a few days ago for the always on feature and am seeming to regret it. Why does the face keep locking while on my wrist?? I have enabled wrist detection, reset my watch, and even erased it and set up as a new watch as opposed to from iCloud. I’ve read about wrist tattoos, I have a small overhang of a tattoo but it doesn’t cover the whole area where the watch is. I don’t feel like this is my issue because I traded up from an SE and this issue NEVER occurred with that watch. Also, my watch is securely on my wrist and I honestly am quite bothered by the fact I see the response to this from Apple is “make sure your watch is on your wrist tight enough.” Clearly something isn’t right as there are a lot of complaints. Is there an update coming or something else I can try??
