How to disable the “shutter” sound when taking a screenshot

I take hundreds of screenshots every day because I use them for reference with a couple apps and programs that I use. Until today, this was a blessedly SILENT operation: I just click the “sleep” and “home” buttons at the same time briefly, the screen flashes, and a screenshot thumbnail appears. Beautiful.

However, today Apple Support guided me to do a Reset on my iPad to resolve a couple of bad bugs that came about after the most recent iOS update. Which is great, but ever since there is a very LOUD and ANNOYING sound (that sounds like a camera shutter) every time I take a screenshot. It’s so ANNOYING! I’ve spend hours now trying to disable it and I can’t figure it out and I am pulling my hair out.

And please don’t tell me to just turn off all volume for everything on my iPad — I need the volume on for when I am watching YouTubes or something like that. I’m learning a new skill with YouTubes atm and I often take screenshots during a video (for my own reference, I don’t distribute). I really, really need to have my sound on in general, but the sound OFF for capturing screenshots.

Please can someone help before I pull out all my hair? Thank you (I have iPad mini 5 with most recent updates)

And please note that I have my iPad main volume (using the physical volume buttons) turned ALL the way down until I get a little icon that shows no volume, and I STILL have a very loud shutter sound whenever I take a screenshot. This is a design FLAW that needs to be fixed in the next patch. It’s not fair to not be able to silence the iPad completely. There are times (meetings, or a place like library, church, funeral) where a device needs to be SILENT). Please escalate this issue. Thank you

Nooooooooooooooooooooo why? It’s so unfair! Can this be reported to Apple to be fixed in a future update??? Please?

Also, I can’t do the workaround you proposed because you linked instructions to enable silent mode on an iPhone, but as stated above, I am experiencing this issue on my iPad mini 5. If there is a silent mode on iPad mini 5, I can’t find it 😢 I really really need to do this silent mode to disable system sounds please help me find it please, thank you

Hello Bettyeditor,

We understand that you're looking to disable the screenshot sound. It cannot be disabled on its own. You can enable silent mode to stop it, and then still turn up volume to listen to media like games and apps. So even with silent mode enabled, you can still listen to YouTube. It just silences system sounds.
