Is there any way to download the Install MacOS Apps?

None of the download links open in a browser. I have tried 3 different browsers and a blank page is shown. Sometimes an Apple header displays briefly, but a blank page is the results.

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.1

Thank you both for replying. I was able to download the Big Sur package from Techspot. The download is a .pkg file that when executed places the Install macOS application within the Applications folder. After installing the application I was able to follow the instructions to create a bootable USB. Apple's website apparently is having an issue with these downloads rendering on laptop browsers. I was able to access the links on my iPhone which simply route you to the App Store, but of course the iPhone doesn't qualify to download the application.

I had the same problem with the download links on the support page. They only lead to a Preview page in App Store. It is necessary to go to the Features section of App Store in order to find an actual download link.

That's an oversight in an otherwise excellent support page. IMO it should also explain that:

  1. It may take >10 min for Terminal to show that you have copied >0% of the Install.
  2. Do NOT rename your blank flash drive "Install macOS Mojave" (or whatever OS version). I tried that and found that Terminal flagged the command line as an error due to the space character. Terminal will rename the flash drive for you, as explained much further down on the support page.
  3. There is no instruction about what to do with the Install app in your Applications folder after you successfully complete (and test) the Bootable disk. I suppose it can be erased to save space, because future updates are made directly without the app.

Can someone confirm #3?

Unless the site you have supplied, as per above, redirects to the Apple Servers Specifically. what has been download is very highly suspect and may contain things one is not expecting nor actually a Real Fuller Installer of Big Sur.

Normally - only a direct connection to an Apple Server is the only way to get Real Full Installer.

Buyer be ware of counterfeit and and knockoffs laced with Malware, Adware and or backdoors leaving the Identity and other sensitive information a risk.

All above is IMHO and in the best interests of the user.

Is this related to your computer as per user profile MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 11.1 ?

If so, the computer is already running an out dated version of Big Sur.

What file is one looking for ? An update to Big Sur to bring it up to date as in Big Sur 11.6.1

Software Update in System Preference should be offering updates for Big Sur - is it not offering updates ?

For #2) You have to use the escape character backslash , \, prior to using a space character in a path name in Terminal. And for #3), yes, you can delete the app once you are done creating the boot disk. Or keep it around if you have plenty of disk space and think you might need to create another boot disk in the near future and want to avoid another download.

To perform this action will require booting from a Bootable Installer

This will have to be performed from a Qualifying Computer to run the version of macOS to be made on the Bootable Installer.

Example : Bootable Installer of Big Sur would have to be done on a computer that Qualifies to run Big Sur.

If the computer being used to download the older version of macOS Does Not Qualify to install the older versions of macOS - it can not be done from this computer - period.

Apple has a Licence of Usage where it outlines basically, one can not downgrade to an older version of macOS that the version it came installed with as New.

To make it more clear. If the computer being used came with - say Catalina macOS 10.15 as New and one what's to download ( even if only to make a bootable Installer ) let us say Mojave macOS 10.14 or High Sierra macOS 10.13 - this computer is disqualified to be used for this purpose.

I didn't have to go anywhere beyond where it landed. It went right to the page with a big "Get" button to click. Did you use Safari?

Name it MyVolume and you can just copy/paste the command. Since it doesn't matter what you name the volume, it will be renamed, as you noted. No need to try to learn the basics of Unix. It would be much better if they didn't suggest renaming the volume or the command at all. Just note that it doesn't matter because it will be renamed by the process.

That's a good idea, too.

You should send Apple Feedback on those changes. The macOS section seems to be the most appropriate.
