Unable to update to Monterey.

I have a 2017 5k iMac running 11.6.1 that cannot be updated.

The error messages vary - error during update, corrupt update file etc.

In each case I have freshly downloaded the install file, trying both wireless and wired connections.

I have also rebooted and repeated the whole process in Safe Mode without success.

Is there something I've missed?

Empty Space Requirements  >> If upgrading from macOS Sierra or later, your Mac needs 26GB of available storage to upgrade. If upgrading from an earlier release, your Mac needs up to 44GB of available storage.

AntiVirus Software should be removed as per Developers Instructions. They are unneeded, cause havoc and interfere with the normal operation of the OS including the download and installation of Monterey

Disk Cleaners, Optimizers and UnInstaller are not needed. They will often times attempt to Modify, Alter, Remove or Delete elements of the Operating System requiring a Re-Installation.

There are reports appearing on the ASC Forums regarding failed installation of Monterey on older Qualifying Apple Computers. In most cases this is related to having a NON Apple Original internal drive ?

The EFI Boot ROM included in Monterey is verifying for Original Apple Drive and if not found , may Balk or fail to upgrade to Monterey.

Reports indicate the EFI BOOT ROM is Required to Flash the Computer and is a  requirement for a Successful Monterey Installation.

Tend to agree on some time of an Alert if same is the issue. Though, since Apple has made it know of the requirements - it sort of falls to the user to verify the drive meets the requirements.

Further to alerts and regarding space.

Have seen a few people believe the drive had the empty space, proceed to install the upgrade, were successful and upon final reboot - the computer could not load. Long story short, the root cause was the drive did not have enough empty Space to completely load normally.

They could only boot Safe Mode which only loads Apple Software, extension and fonts. Then, had to do a Target Disk Mode to remove videos, music, picture, iPhone Backups etc just to get the computer to function semi-normally.

Thanks for the advice but the only one of those the comes close to my situation is drive space. The system is all original, no anti-virus, no custom os extensions. There should be ample space available but I’ll free up some more and try again. Also if drive space is the issue then it’s odd that the error message doesn’t just say that.
