macOS Monterey 12.0.1 and intermittent network connectivity

I have a 2019 13" Macbook Pro and have been successfully using it with my Google Nest Mesh wifi and fiber modem for a couple years when running Big Sur. I upgraded to Monterey and I'm experiencing intermittent network drops.

Others in my family are connected to the same mesh and fiber modem and do not experience issues.

It's definitely isolated to my Macbook. A reboot fixes it. Disabling/enabling wifi and other tinkering with it doesn't resolve it.

Are others experiencing this problem? Is there a definitive way to trouble shoot this problem as a reboot is not acceptable or timely resolution. :)

Exactly the same problem here. I've ruled out google wifi (colleagues with the same problem that don't use google wifi) and I've identified CiscoAnyconnect as the culprit. It's doing something weird with mDNS.

To see the problem manifest, run the following command in a terminal "netstat -an | wc -l" - this lists out (more or less) the number of open network connections your computer has. I've noticed that day on day this number grows to a number around 300,000 at which point the network dies - exhausted ports would be my guess. The only thing I can do at that point is reboot.

Now, why do I think it's Anyconnect? I uninstalled Anyconnect (and rebooted) - the problem went away - lines the command I provided above sits around 800. Installed Anyconnect - problem came back, uninstalled (and rebooted) and the problem went away.

Now.. the big question is - is it a problem for Cisco or Apple to fix?

Hey szilagyi97,

If those steps didn’t help with the issue you’re having, go through the following links to help you check for any sources of interference and make sure the router is set up correctly to work with your Mac:

Same issue here. Not sure what's relevant, but:

  • google mesh wifi
  • Work laptop that disconnects frequently: macbook pro 2020 13" running Monterey 12.1 with Cisco AnyConnect 4.10.00093
  • All my other WiFi devices seem to have no problem including other macs running Monterey

When my work laptop disconnects, it sometimes resolves itself after 3-5 minutes. Turning WiFi on and off a few times on the laptop sometimes works. Reboot always works. Super annoying. I was also suspecting the problems started around the time I upgraded to Monterey. Does seem like a Cisco-Monterey thing.

I don't know how to ask this more clearly but let me try another way. I have 5 macbooks (all running Big Sur) and 5 iphones in my home. All of them are working perfectly and not experiencing any network or wifi issues with my Google Nest wifi mesh network and fiber cable modem.

I updated *ONE* macbook to Monterey 12.0.1 and that *ONE* macbook is having intermittent issues staying connected. The remaining 4 macbooks and 5 iphones are operating fine even when the single Monterey macbook is intermittently disconnecting.

There is nothing wrong with my router, my wifi network or my internet provider. I was hoping someone could reference a known issue with Monterey and tell me a fix is on the way. Please do not post anymore suggestions on how to troubleshoot basic wifi connection.

Do I need to open a case with Apple to get support?

Hi guys,

I have the SAME EXACTLY problem and behavior in my house.

The only difference is that there is another MacBook on my house that was upgraded to Monterey and is working fine.

My company uses Cisco AnyConect as VPN and no matter if I'm using it or not, there are some "drivers" on the "Network Preferences" screen. Please find the screen shot attached. Not sure if there is any interference there.

It is really annoying this behaviors, specially now we are working from home.
