Macbook asking for Pin vs Password

I have an issue every so often, its random and not sure what causes it. When I open my laptop it will say "Your password is required to enable Touch ID" but in the grey input box it states Pin. My laptop password does not allow me to get in, and I don't have any Pin set up. This requires me to hold down the power key to reboot, after system restart I can enter my password and login without issues. This is really frustrating, and has been happening for months through several OS updates. I'm using a 2020 M1 Air currently on Monterey 12.0.1 for reference.

We recommend that you test the issue in safe mode. Starting in safe mode allows your Mac to run certain checks, remove caches, and prevent login items from automatically launching.
