Issue with Touch ID not working

I have an Apple 24-inch M1, 2021 desktop that came with a wireless Magic Keyboard. The keyboard has Touch ID, which I have set up successfully, but the fingerprint is failing to work after 1-2 weeks. I can back into Preferences and set up a new one that works, but is anyone else having this issue? Any idea of what might be causing the fingerprint to fail after a while?

I did find this Apple Support article. After turning off the keyboard and cleaning the Touch ID, it is working again without having to create a new fingerprint profile.
