Pairing Sol Republic earbuds

My non apple ear buds will not pair with my iPad Air 3 but they pair with my iPhone XR. Any hints about my iPad settings that could be blocking the pairing function? Yes the Bluetooth function is turned on…

Will your ear buds pair with more than one device at a time?

Did you choose to forget them on the iPhone before putting them

into pairing mode and trying to pair with the iPad?
