Apple iWatch and notifications

Ever since switching my iWatch on and pairing it with my iPhone11, I now receive now alert sound when I recieve notifications, emails, etc on my iPhone even when my iWatch is down or out of charge? I can't seem to get the norification alerts back on my iPhone which means I have to constantly look at it to see if I have new emails etc. How do I reverse this.
