Monterey installation hangs at 53 minutes remaining

I've tried installing Monterey several times, and each time, it hangs at "53 minutes remaining." I've tried rebooting, as well as deleting and redownloading the installation software -- it's always the exact same thing. If I hit command-L to look at the logs, nothing is happening (I started running it last night, and left it running overnight just in case, but the log shows no activity in the last 12 hours). This is all on a 2020 MacBook Pro running Big Sur.

Here are the last few lines from the logs:

Is the user profile accurate in that this computer is running Big Sur 11.0 ?

If that is accurate - there lies in the issue.

This version of Bug Sur is badly out dated. The current version of Big Sur is as of Monday Dec 13, 2021 version 11.6.2

Have seen a few persons attempting the leap from outdated Big Sur to Monterey and the installation will balk and fail.

Predicated on above being accurate - suggest updating Big Sur to most recent. Then, attempt the upGrade to Monterey.

There might be some steps in-between before reaching the 11.6.2

There are some EFI Boot ROMs after 11.3.1 and before reading 11.6.2

Was just helping another would as attempting to jump from Mojave Directly to Big Sur 11.6.2 via Bootable Installer - No Go. Apple Store had to install Big Sur 11.4 before it would take.

Then use was able to update 11.4 directly to 11.6.2
