The automatic spell checking in Mail is not working (it works great in Pages and Numbers where mispellings are underlined as I type).
I do have system settings set to make it check spelling as well as the settings within Mail.
I'm running 12.1 on a MacBook Pro 2021.
For that matter, it's also not spell checking in Notes as well.
MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 12.1
Has one verified in System Preferences >> Keyboard >> Text tab and on right top Enable " Correct Spelling Automatically"

I opened Terminal and pasted this and then hit return.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I definitely have it set to "Enable Spelling Automaticaly" in the text tab of the Keyboard section in System Preferences. I've also tried turning that off and then on to see if it makes any difference.
I solved it. I had installed and then deleted Grammarly and though I deleted it, it left the system spell check preferences partially off. On another thread, someone posted a brief command line text which I pasted into Terminal. That fixed the problem.
