Imac stalling with spinning Beachball.

My iMac started to act very strange. It is extremely slow with a spinning beach ball most of the time.Decided I should do a clean install but been unable to get recovery to work. When I get to the window with clean install it can’t find the server.Tryed to restore from a time machine backup but it just hung there and did nothing for an hour.Ran disc utility couple of errors but said they where fixed.Anyone have any ideas.

Welcome to Apple Support Communities.

If you can boot into macOS, I believe we need to proceed with an EtreCheck report. EtreCheck is a useful App to diagnose and identify issues, both hardware and software. It is trusted by many users. Please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Navigate to: https://etrecheck.com and get the free version of EtreCheckPro.
  2. Download it. It is a free and trusted app. It is often recommended here on Apple Support Communities.
  3. Open EtreCheck, and before running the report, be sure to check “Allow full Drive Access” at the bottom of the EtreCheckPro window.
  4. Run the report, and put it in a post, as seen here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250000211. We will then examine the report for issues in your Mac.

Your Time Machine backup is too small, and therefore, Time Machine is not backing up. Get a new and larger drive. I recommend using a SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE - Western Digital as your backup drive. You can then follow the Apple Support steps to setup your Time Machine backup: Back up your Mac with Time Machine - Apple Support.

I personally also use iCloud in addition to Time Machine to sync all my files and photos to all my Apple devices. Although iCloud is not a "true" backup service, iCloud can also act as an emergency backup, but this is why iCloud should be used in addition to Time Machine. I strongly recommend using it.Here are some resources on setting up iCloud for Mac:

You have adware. Remove it with Malwarebytes for Mac.

Your Security and Updates are disabled. Please go to System Preferences > Software Update, and turn on the following:

    • Check for Updates
    • Download new updates when available
    • Install App Updates from the App Store
    • Install System data files and security updates

Then, go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General, and make sure the "Allow Apps downloaded from" is set to either "App Store" or "App Store and Identified Developers" (that may be the only options shown).

Delete Adobe Flash. [Instructions] It is no longer used.

You have lots of Internet Plug-Ins. Go through and delete them in ~/Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/.

Next, Start up your Mac in safe mode - Apple Support, login and restart into normal mode. Then, run First Aid on your Fusion Drive: How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility - Apple Support.

Finally, use DriveDx to check the health of your Fusion Drive and upload the two reports.

Cheers,

Jack

Time machine is 1terrabyte but it’s full with backups,Auto up date is off because I don’t want the new OS.I have updated when it shows there.ie security updates on OS and Safari.Flash that might be a problem.I have tryed dl the flash remover but no luck so far.Never had an iCloud account why do I need one.I have had no luck dl malware app or remove flash. The computer barely works ten minutes per click. All I really want to do is do a clean install but could not get the wifi to work in recovery mode.
