iTunes sync doesn't recognize content on new phone

Sorry for the long delay in responding to Shannon's suggestion. In order to try this, I had to upgrade my OS from 14 to 15, and I wasn't quite ready to do that. Now I have upgraded to 15.2, but the problem remains. Are there any other options besides wiping the phone and updating from iTunes?

Thanks.

Here is what Shannon suggested if it doesn't show up:

Gotcha Pam441,

Do you have your old iPhone still, just in the event we need to recover info from it? If you have a backup in iTunes still, that'll work if needed.

We want to have you follow the steps listed in the following article: If you can't update or restore your iPhone or iPod touch When you reach the part where it says Update or Restore, you'll want to choose Update.

Hello Pam441,

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities. We understand that iTunes on your Mac does not recognize that your content is on your new iPhone.

Which content are you syncing exactly? For example, are you syncing music? When syncing content from iTunes, you will need to select everything that you want on your iPhone since it will sync fresh each time. For example, if you have a song on your iPhone that you would like to remove, unselecting it during the syncing process will remove it. This is important because that might be why you see a larger storage being synced than expected. Check out Use iTunes to sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod with your computer.

Best wishes.

Pam441,

Do you use or have you previously used Apple Music? Check to see if Sync Library is enabled from Settings > Music. Try toggling this setting off/on. Please keep in mind that if you do use Apple Music your downloaded music may be removed by changing this setting. You can download those songs again once enabled. There's further information in Turn on Sync Library with Apple Music.

Take care.

Thank you Faith 185,

I am syncing mostly music and some movies. When I connect to iTunes, I see the content that exists on my iphone when I select "on my device", but iTunes doesn't recognize it. When I have everything checked that I previously synced to my phone, and still exists on it, it says there is not enough room because it wants to put all of it on my phone-it doesn't see that it is already there. If I uncheck everying, it does not remove it because it doesn't know it is there. If I check one playlist to be synced, it syncs just that playlist because it hass enough room to do so. iTunes literally has no idea that anything already exists on my phone.
