Unable to Sign Into My iCloud/AppleID From My MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015)

I have a Macbook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2015), that won't allow me to sign into my Apple ID. I get the notification with the code to enter on my iphone, but I have no where to enter it on my MacBook. I am also trying to update the operating system, but when i go to the App Store for the updates, I get a "No Updates Available" message. What am I doing wrong?
