Where can I find a driver for my Multifunction HP printer/scamner/fax/copier?.....HP doesn't seem to have a specified driver that can operate with OS Montery 12.1

The HP Laserjet Pro MFP 283fdw is supported by Apple's built-in AirPrint when the device is networked (wired/wirelessly). No HP drivers or software is necessary for this AirPrint support.

Turn on the printer and ensure it is wirelessly visible on your local network.

In the System Preferences > Printers & Scanners panel, right-click on your device, and choose Reset printing system… This will clear your device, and then you click [+] to re-add it. A new panel will appear and if you are using the first toolbar icon (default), you should see a line with your printer and Bonjour on the right. Select this, and in the Use selector, choose Auto Select, and you should be configured for AirPrint (though, unlike Big Sur, Monterey will just list your device here instead of AirPrint). Choose Re-add. Right-click on your newly re-added HP printer and choose Set default printer.

You should be able to print at this point. There may be additional settings in the print panel for scanner settings, but scanning should be supported via Apple's included Image Capture application.

Kevin let the Mac install the Kexts=drivers itself , do this , unplug from power cord your printer and usb too, turn off your Mac wait for few minutes at least 2 then plug back in the power cord to your printer then the usb cable leave the printer on and turn back in your Mac , go to system preferences then Printers& Scanners option and check if your printer 🖨 it’s installed if not add manually click on the icon + and if the printer it’s listed select it and add it

I got it. firs off read the instructions before download and install the OS for your printer you can see on top is for macOS 12 of course is Monterey download the file in the arrow then the other, run both files check on top of the screenshot is for macOS 12

Note that the file with 219 mb is for your printer to get all its features working and the other the firmware. I hope this help you to solve your issues

ok is a wireless printer, so for all wireless printers they must be in range to get connect like your home wifi, ok let me give you a link where you can download all HP printers softwares so understand something in Mac is called Kexts but the installer must be with .dmg extension I had that issue before and I found the installer then my printer get installed itself. what model or series is your printer?

Even before I upgraded to Monterey, my HP scanner stopped working. I went to HP and figured out they had deployed this newer software application called "HP SMART".

The best thing I can suggest is to remove ALL of the HP drivers on your Mac and then use HP SMART. When you to PRINTERS, it will identify the HP printers and it will install the correct drivers.

If you try to manually install the printer, you will only have a short list of printer drivers or "generic" to choose from, which will not allow you to use all of the features of the printer. Let "HP SMART" do the work and from now on, you will go there to Print, SCAN, FAX or check ink levels with the printers.

You can still choose HP printers from all your other applications (Mail, Office, NOTES, etc) and the printers will show up in the System Preferences > Printers like it always has. Scanner will no longer be an option, but you can still check for Supply Levels (ink).

HP did this, not Apple
