Apple Music not playing audio in lossless on Mac and iPhone

I recently activated the free trial of Apple Music. Everything has been really good like I'm definitely switching from Spotify to Apple Music. But one of the main reasons of why I wanted to try Apple Music was because of its support for lossless audio. So I enabled lossless audio and when I play stuff (both on my Mac and iPhone all with macOS Monterey 12.1 and iOS 15.2) it does not show the lossless audio symbol as it does for some songs (e.g: Free Fallin' by Tom Petty but not Santa Tell Me by Ariana Grande even though that song supports both Dolby Atmos and lossless). I can hear a difference between 256kbits ACC and 1,411 ALAC, and I really do not want the compressed audio. Also, this problem is occurring when I am listening on my MacBook Pro's built-in speakers and I think when I have my phone plugged into my soundbar via the lighting to 3.5 Apple adapter which supports audio up to 24bit/48khz.

Thank you very much!

P.S here are some pictures of what it does on the Mac

iPhone 7, iOS 15

Hi,

Looking at Apple Music library in U.K. , Little Drummer Boy is not lossless, Carpenters track is lossless. I found three versions of the Ariana Grande track none of which play as lossless although the single version suggests that the track is lossless and supports Dolby atmos.

If my experience is anything to go by, the effective availability of lossless is dependant on the speed of the internet connection. I couldn’t understand why I wasn’t seeing the lossless logo when playing tracks I knew were available in lossless and higher. I have all the right settings in place and had checked what the track quality options were in the File Info tab in MacOS Music. While playing a track, the File Info tab would show AAC as the file type. Then I noticed one track briefly displayed to Lossless logo before it disappeared. So as a test, I downloaded a track and then played it. Sure enough, it plays with the the Lossless logo in place for the duration. By way of background, we live in a rural area with rubbish internet (normal <10mbps, often <5mbps) so I’m assuming Apple must monitor internet throughput and adjust the file accordingly. Interestingly, we can still get lossless to work OK on Tidal, albeit with a lag to start with.
