Hi data usage.

last week I adds an wired connection to my Apple TV .

and the I se the data transfer has gone trough the roof.

Even though the Apple TV is at rest I can se that it consumes 1 mbit of data constantly. That 1 mbit is generated by the Ethernet port address and goes back to the Wi-Fi address of the same device.

The last hour even though in rest I has consumed 700 mb of data.

The quick workaround is to turn the wifi or eth off.

Is that type of workaround really supposed to be necessary?

Apple TV HD, tvOS 15

See if you have UPnP activated on your router. Turn it off, if it was set on.

Do you have HomeKit devices?

An Apple TV in sleep mode shouldn’t use any bandwidth, neither ethernet nor Wi-Fi, except for responses to other network gear.

An Apple TV, awake but otherwise idle, might use bandwidth for updates to apps, system software, Aerial screen saver clips.

Contact your router manufacturer for more details.
