Battery drain on watch series 7

I just got the apple watch series 7 a couple of weeks ago and have been experiencing short battery life. Even with most functions/ background app refresh etc turned off, the watch can only last 10 hours after a full charge. It can barely get through a work day. Battery % drops close to 10% per hour.

Have tried resetting, unpairing etc, hasn't worked to resolve this issue.

This happened on watchOS 8.1.1 and 8.3.

Does any one else have this problem?

I agree. It drove me nuts too!

I ended up making an appointment with the Genius Bar because all other methods had failed me.

Was told that the watch battery was likely discharging abnormally.

Exchanged it for a new one - battery life seems ok on this one. But I will try it out for a few days first before making any conclusions.

I'm not doubting you have an issue and there is no condescension here. But posting your dissatisfaction here, on a user to user only forum, doesn't get you much. If your watch battery is discharging too quickly, you need to get Apple to help you. And this isn't the place to get Apple's attention.

  1. Use the get support button at the of this page to contact Apple
  2. If in the US, call Apple at: 800-MY-APPLE
  3. Or, schedule an appointment at your Apple Store Genius Bar and let Apple run diagnostics on your watch

I am updating here. I followed advice of doing a reset of the watch and reconnecting, and tbh that fixed my battery issue. It isn't draining as quickly as it used to and I only turned off features I don't use but still have a lot of others still on that people say drain their batteries. So try a reset of your watch. If that doesn't work, I'm sorry!

Hello all,

I have found a solution that has tripled my battery life. It is an inappropriate solution in that Apple should own this.

In short, I went out and purchased an apple brand charging cube with the USB-C connector and Apple Watch charger pad. For some reason instead of using the USB power from my laptop or another generic cube, I have increased the charge of my battery from 5hrs to 15hrs. This is still unacceptable but at least makes my watch usable for most of my day. I hope this works for you all as well.

Truly my confidence in Apple has dramatically dropped. My perspective has gone from a world class product to an overpriced, same as everyone else perspective. IMHO apple should fix the problem and issue a recall exchange on this product.

Interestingly IMHO IBM killed their pc business through proprietary practices. Seems like with Steve Jobs passed, so has the quality of my formerly favourite brand.

Regards,

Ray G.

So I had put in a complaint about my watch in here a few weeks ago Apple did replace my watch after my calling and complaining .. and I felt like I was still having the same issue. I work out early in the morning so what I did when I am done my work out I turn the watch off and put it on the charger for 20 minutes and it gets a back to 100% and I’ve had no issues throughout the day for normal usage I feel like When you do an activity on it and hit end it does end but I feel like the watch is still working internally like you’re doing an activity causing it to drain faster maybe idk

rete my post. Everything has. Even tried multiple times by Apple master trained employees as well as myself. I even replaced my 12 pro with a 13 pro to eliminate a phone issue. Believe me when I say it’s inconceivable that any one person would have this experience with so many watches. I don’t want this issue to be true but I can tell you it is. I had a series 6 and never had one issue but I traded for the 7 for the bigger screen and new color and I wish I had it back! There is someone else in my household with a series 7 41mm that isn’t having any issues at all!!

Which is why I would have to believe there is something in your setup causing the issue. I understand you've been to the Genius Bar, but have you tried simply unpairing the watch and setting it up as a new watch, not from backup? Saying you've been to the Genius doesn't say exactly what things you've tried.

Exactly the same , had a fit bit versa 2 and single charge would last a week, I was doing multiple tracked exercise.

bought the apple watch 7 series 6 days ago, charged overnight the 1st day and the 2nd day the battery lasted 6 hours , I thought due to mucking with etc

the next couple of days charge overnight and battery would last 8 hours

yesterday I did the first work out and the battery lasted 5 hours after charging all night

took it back to supplier today was told to monitor it for week and if it doesn’t improve after doing update to take it back for warranty as “ there are duds “ I was told ???

see what the next few days bring and if they will intact swap it 🤞🏼

Have the same problems on my Series 6, battery drains 2x faster with 8.7.

Took it to the apple store, they tried resetting it and couldn’t find anything with watch hardware. They did not offer another solution than waiting for a a potential SW fix.

Apple recently released update 8.7.1, unfortunately they only fixed problems for Apple Watch 3 and didn’t bother to solve the battery draining issues that are reported on other Apple Watch series

It’s a shame that they are going through the trouble to provide an update but don’t bother to fix the issues.

Would appreciate a response from Apple as their service has been useless so far.

My watch is getting MUCH MUCH better battery life after the update I installed 2 weeks ago. It is back to what I would expect. I did turn off many of the features mentioned above, but that did not make the difference, but the update did. So check to see if you have installed all the latest updates, because my 7 Series is working just like I would hope and my battery lasts well over 24 hours now.

I had the same problem at first, as I am very active at work the watch would be dead on me at midday. So I turned off every notification possible manually and this marginally helped, still not enough. Now I have my watch in the flight mode all the time, keep fitness, mail, messages and calls notifications and use less than 50% of battery during my work days. I’ve had watch 7 for 13 months now.
