Battery drain on watch series 7

I just got the apple watch series 7 a couple of weeks ago and have been experiencing short battery life. Even with most functions/ background app refresh etc turned off, the watch can only last 10 hours after a full charge. It can barely get through a work day. Battery % drops close to 10% per hour.

Have tried resetting, unpairing etc, hasn't worked to resolve this issue.

This happened on watchOS 8.1.1 and 8.3.

Does any one else have this problem?

I agree. It drove me nuts too!

I ended up making an appointment with the Genius Bar because all other methods had failed me.

Was told that the watch battery was likely discharging abnormally.

Exchanged it for a new one - battery life seems ok on this one. But I will try it out for a few days first before making any conclusions.

I am having the same exact problem I’ve been driving myself nuts for the past week and have everything off that drains the battery and still it doesn’t last I called them yesterday cause I thought it was defective so I just sent it back in and they’re going to send me a new one but I actually wrote down my times yesterday I basically put the watch on at 8 AM and did a 2 1/2 hour workout and by 2:30 my watch was completely dead I had a series 5 before this I never ever had this issue like I wonder is this a software issue or is this an actual battery issue either way I hope Apple addresses this fast because I need my watch all day not for seven hours especially with the price tag that comes along with it

Apple says an Apple Watch will get UP TO 18 hours in their specifications. Of course peoples times will vary, depending on usage, so if you are getting up to that many hours, your watch is operating as it was designed to operate. No Apple Watch every designed lasts days on a single charge, if that was anyone's expectation.

I have found that I can get more time if I turn off Background App Refresh, which I don't need and I turned off Listen for Hey Siri as I simply don't need my watch to be listening constantly for that and my battery life is lasting me all the hours in a day I need it to last and then some.

First please excuse my english!

A question for you all like me having problems with watch 7. Do you use any media on your phone?

I am asking you this because my watch in that morning (cold one) was perfect. From 8:30 to 12:30 it was at 95% battery after a walk of 6 km and 10 messages and one call.

But after 12:30 i got home and after i stay 1-2 hours on youtube to see informations about watch 7 tips&tricks i see that the watch was now at 55-60% battery.

Auto launch audio was off and the watch was on my desk NOT on my hand.

At 15:30 i want to go out again and i notice the problem.

Can this be true or is just a coincidence? Watching youtube drains the battery of your watch? You can test too!

I have read right through all this and we should all listen to what has been explained a lot of times on this post.
Apple have no sight or interest in what goes on in these forums.
It is absolutely wrong that there is no official complaints procedure and I am in the UK am in the process of trying to change this.
In the meantime the only way to voice either your satisfaction or dissatisfaction is to use the Apple feedback form. I this case nearly 300 Me toos could have filled up this form and perhaps they would listen.
I have filled up many of them and still the charging problems of all types prevail.
So don’t hold your breath but who knows it could make a difference.

You can use the

link.

You can call Apple. At the bottom of the UK Apple page should be a phone number you can call.

You can get a free https://developer.apple.com account, and file bug reports.

Feedback is just one way to talk to Apple. It is not the only way.

You aren't writing Apple on this user to user only forum. Saying "C'mon Apple" here is as valuable as whispering into the wind.

I will say I have two Series 7 watches, neither have any unusual battery drain. Apple would recommend you unpair your watch from your iPhone and set it up again as one way to ensure something isn't amiss. But if you want to wait and hope Apple knows you have an issue, you can do that or you can provide feedback directly to Apple via this link --> Feedback - Apple Watch - Apple

I suspect the same thing. I traded a series 6 for a series 7 in November of 2021. In January 2022, the watch pretty much stopped working. The battery took a nose drive from fully charged to dead withing 3-4 hours. after unpairing and repairing same result. This could get lengthy so I will just say this: I'm on my 4th Series 7 watch because I keep returning them. I got a new one just yesterday at the apple store and had an appointment with the geniuses, lol. We tried everything from wiping the phone and watch clean to running diagnostics. To say the least, they were all stumped. I had previously sent 2 of the last four watches into apple for repair but they sent them back saying no problem was reproducible. At this time, I have an expensive piece of time jewelry. The Series 6 never had any issues. Apple needs to address this issue publicly before they lose a bunch of consumer confidence in them!!!!!!!!!!!!

The one thing that helped is turning off wake on wrist raise. I can get through 8 hours this way.Which is insane because all my other Apple Watches that I have owned before this one, never had this problem and I had everything turned on. they also added a power reserve button. This button is where you can check the battery life when you swipe down. It also makes it impossible for the watch to come back without rebooting the watch. You get a LCD display when you use this option. This also indicates that they have no idea how to fix this problem. Why add this feature? This was never on any of the other watches. Now I have to leave everything off which does not make this watch functional. The whole purpose of the watch is functionality. Yet you have to turn everything off in order to preserve battery life. I don't get it. I truly think that these watches are defective. And Apple has no idea how to fix it. There will probably be enough people complaining that they'll have to do something. I'm sure there's some kind of recourse for a problem that's not getting fixed. I bet the android manufacturers are very happy.. What happened to Apple quality. Quality service at a premium price. No longer the case just a premium price with crappy service. Makes me so sad.

I’ve had my watch for 3 months and it will NOT hold a charge. I’ll put it on at 7am, and by 11pm it’s dead completely.

I’ve tried re-pairing it, resetting it, turning off background app refresh, notifications, and any apps/settings that would help. Even with low power mode on I can only get an extra hour or two.

Apple support is looking into it tomorrow to see if I need a replacement of if it can be repaired. So frustrating as I had the series 6 since it came out but it had recently died, hence the “upgrade”. Hope they fix the faulty battery!

I charge my watch at 10 PM each night with battery optimization on. Have like no features in the background. Use all types of screen locks and and wake up at 7 AM to 57% battery life. I have it in DND and sleep focus. By 5 PM it’s 10% and that was with low power mode on. This wasn’t a problem for me until the last update. Apple support told me to try charging without optimization on and it still sucks the battery out. That and they told me to take it to a store to be looked at. Mind you in my state capital there is ONE store and it’s always packed am with traffic on hour from my house on the other side of town. I have AppleCare and they asked me if I wanted them to look for a location near me….
