Battery drain on watch series 7

I just got the apple watch series 7 a couple of weeks ago and have been experiencing short battery life. Even with most functions/ background app refresh etc turned off, the watch can only last 10 hours after a full charge. It can barely get through a work day. Battery % drops close to 10% per hour.

Have tried resetting, unpairing etc, hasn't worked to resolve this issue.

This happened on watchOS 8.1.1 and 8.3.

Does any one else have this problem?

I agree. It drove me nuts too!

I ended up making an appointment with the Genius Bar because all other methods had failed me.

Was told that the watch battery was likely discharging abnormally.

Exchanged it for a new one - battery life seems ok on this one. But I will try it out for a few days first before making any conclusions.

I am having the same issue on my series 7. Mine last roughly 6 to 7 hours. I have tried everything as well. I have had Apple watches for years and I’ve never had an issue like this. It is very frustrating. The response you received is unacceptable. I have my watch set to power saver mode. The screen is off unless I touch it, etc. I don’t have cellular… This is an obvious flaw that needs addressed.

This is not true. The Series 7 actually has some battery drain problem. I recently bought Apple Watch 41 mm GPS only for my wife and it’s seldom used (as she wears many watches). The Watch is mostly kept on charging, and she wears only for fashion, doesn’t really use the Apple ecosystem.

Her general complaint is that she gets a battery low message every day.

I am trying to update the Watch OS and see if this solves anything.

Same issue here. My husband and I got each other series 7 for Christmas. We both had series 3 before, 4 years old - no battery issues, it would last the day unless very heavily used. I was expecting a better experience with the new ones of course, but I'll take the same battery life as old ones given all the new features. But for both of us, the watch does not last the day, even with minimal usage (no workouts/calls, just receiving messages). I left the watch on the table for the whole day with full charge and by 8:00 pm it was drained. Series 3 would take more than 3 days to get to 0 with no usage.

This is a garbage response from Apple. Take a look at this feed or any other feed. People are seeing major issues with these $500 watches and Apple says “oh well”.

so darn disappointed

Recently bought the 7 and the battery is not holding a charge.

I have had an Apple watch 6 for a year. I have it run off of Wifi, turn off cellular, no App refresh, simple watch face, notifications on for only some news sites, no watch face on all the time, and I do an hour worth of Apple Fitness Plus workouts with it. I leave on wake on wrist because it never has been an issue.

I will be put the watch on at 8am and take it off around midnight with about 85%-95% battery life left. Some days there is even more juice left on it. I recently bought an Apple Watch 7 and for whatever reason with the same settings I watch the battery bleed out charge. I have a watch face that is grey and dimmed out, no animations, I have pulled back every notification, and disconnected all my apps from doing anything from this watch. I am not even working out right now and this watch DRAINS. I am thinking of sending it back and keeping my Apple Watch 6 that holds an awesome charge. Really disappointed and yeah I can charge it quicker, but when I am on a bike trip and on a trail I cannot have this watch lose a charge like this. I have no way to charge it when on the go.

I got exactly the same issue with the Wifi version of the watch S7 45mm since the very first day I got it in the past week. And even worse, it won't last over 5 hours even I've DISABLED any of the following features that might cause power consumption including notifications, Show Notification on Wrist Down, Mirror iPhone Alerts, Dictation, Hand Off, Siri, Environmental Sound Measurements, Blood Oxygen. And I've uninstalled all the third-party apps and only keep the original apps of Apple Watch. What's more, I've tried to unpair the watch with my iPhone, erase all the contents and setting on the watch, re-paired, and set it up as a new watch for TWICE! But unfortunately, NONE of this works! Hilariously, my old S4 watch could last for over 34-hour compared to the 5-hour of S7 with the same settings! I've approached with Apple Store and the hotline for technical support, they did a diagnostic process and shows the battery's health is 100% and cannot explain why all these happen. It's obvious a flaw product!

Watch is horrible. I want my series 4 back. Drains when wearing. Been to genius a few times and nothing. Had watch replaced and same issue. I experimented and left watch overnight and only lost 10%. Then put on and lost over 10% in first hour.

I turned so many things off, that I do not need the watch, and may return it as it doesn’t last a day. They reset as new, I use a basic watch face, turned off all notifications, etc.

Ridiculous issue and I see that many have the same issue, so it is the watch or update.

Need to address this with an update that stops draining the watch.

I’m now on my 5th series 7 45mm and it’s doing the same thing as the other four. The battery charges all night, I put it on at 8am and it’s dead by noon. I have been to the Genius Bar twice, Best Buy twice. And the Verizon store twice. All of these places tell me they don’t know what the problem is and this is the first they had heard of this issue. Two of the watches were sent to apple and not fixed. I have done everything troubleshooting wise that can be done. You name it, I’ve done it. I’m taking this piece of crap back tomorrow and I quit. Apple should be ashamed of themselves for not addressing this publicly. Steve Jobs would not allow this to happen!!!

I posted recently about the problem I was having with both my series 7 watch (purchased Dec. 2021) and my new series 7 SE iPhone. Both were discharging so quickly that I was having to recharge my watch twice a day, and often my phone would discharge in less that nine hours. I contacted Apple Support a couple of weeks ago (last week of May) and the agent ran a diagnostic on the watch. Finding no software problems with it, he suggested unpairing and then re-pairing the watch and phone. This seems to have fixed the problem, and both devices have been working fine since then! Very good news.

We got the Iwatch 7 last year for my elder dementia dad to help detect falls and measure his heart rate and oxygen and locate him if he gets lost; was highly recommended by Emergency room doctor and his regular medical team. But after the recent iOS update, it is frustrating that the battery life dies not last long! The caregivers usually charge once a day but now it appears the watch needs charging AM and PM.
