Battery drain on watch series 7

I just got the apple watch series 7 a couple of weeks ago and have been experiencing short battery life. Even with most functions/ background app refresh etc turned off, the watch can only last 10 hours after a full charge. It can barely get through a work day. Battery % drops close to 10% per hour.

Have tried resetting, unpairing etc, hasn't worked to resolve this issue.

This happened on watchOS 8.1.1 and 8.3.

Does any one else have this problem?

I agree. It drove me nuts too!

I ended up making an appointment with the Genius Bar because all other methods had failed me.

Was told that the watch battery was likely discharging abnormally.

Exchanged it for a new one - battery life seems ok on this one. But I will try it out for a few days first before making any conclusions.

Battery life for the Apple Watch Series 7 can be up to 18 hours of usage, but as noted above, the battery life can vary based on how it is used and configured, settings wise. I totally agree a brand new watch should not have a far worse battery life then older models the whole point we upgrade is for better features and better battery life I traded in a series 5 I never had an issue with it I wore my wife’s series 5 yesterday had it on all day did the three hour work out and put it on charge at 1:30 AM and still have 20% off, I also talk to two other friends of mine yesterday that got new watches same issues like this is totally unacceptable and Apple need to do something about this ASAP I guess there’s us posting on here help make something happen ?

Yes mine it has that problem also. Last evening i came home with 12% battery. Then i want to make a test. I charge it to 35% battery and then i send from my girlfriend phone one wtsp msg, one normal msg and one 10 seconds call. After all that “stress” i had 29% battery. So i lost 6 procent for 2 msg and 10 seconds call. In the next 15 minute the battery was 22%. So in 20 minutes i lost 13%….and this is not normal.

This is such a frustrating problem. I’m trying to figure out why this watch actually has fewer features than a Fitbit charge 5 and a very poor battery life. I do not use mine for calls and don’t do heavy app use. I’m lucky to get 18 hours, so it dies at night and my sleep data is not accurate. Oh and sleep data…if you want decent and detailed data, you need to buy another app! This is ridiculous. I’m seriously considering going back to Fitbit, but boy this is an expensive lesson! Very disappointed in my Apple Watch 7!

I turn off background for all execpt wtsp, phone, messages.

I turn off notifications for all my aps except calls, mesages and wtsp.

I turn off Siri

I turn off always display

I turn off everything for what? To have 12% battery at 6 in the evening, no gps, no workout, no nothing only a couple of messages and a few calls but not from the watch.

I returned and i buy an Honor again. 20-25 days battery

Yeah… you must have a watch that isn’t experiencing the glitch. What is the point in having a 700$ smart watch if you have to turn off all of its features and still only get six maybe-seven hours of use out of it? There is absolutely no point. Might as well go buy a Timex. There is a clear problem when I put my watch on at six and it is dead by noon. Again without any features being used at all. I know it is a glitch because every once in a while randomly my watch will get 18 hours plus but that is probably once every week or so and there’s no rhyme or reason to when all the sudden it’s charge decides to last . It is a clear issue as you can see from all the responses. I have had previous Apple watches for years and have never had any issues. There’s no reason they’re latest model performs worse than the previous ones. Literally at this point it is more frustrating to wear the watch and have to constantly charge it so I end up just keeping it off. Pretty expensive paperweight…


Just because your are not experiencing an issue doesn’t mean that there isn’t an issue. So no need for the semi-condescending passive aggressive response.

I have the exact same problem... This HAS to be software related.. I returned the first one I ordered back in October, the second one did the same thing, kept it too long because I thought it would be figured out, got sick of it, did an AppleCare replacement, now the third BRAND NEW watch is having the same horrible battery life like the rest of them.. I've never factory reset a device so many times in my life. I am at my wits end with this thing. My Series 4 was better than this, that's pathetic. I used to love my watch, now I hate it.. I get maybe 8 hours out of this thing if I'm lucky.

I have read right through all this and we should all listen to what has been explained a lot of times on this post.

Apple have no sight or interest in what goes on in these forums.

It is absolutely wrong that there is no official complaints procedure and I am in the UK am in the process of trying to change this.

In the meantime the only way to voice either your satisfaction or dissatisfaction is to use the Apple feedback form. I this case nearly 300 Me toos could have filled up this form and perhaps they would listen.

I have filled up many of them and still the charging problems of all types prevail.

So don’t hold your breath but who knows it could make a difference.

Glad to hear it.

Need some fixed results because this 8.3 fiasco is not going away. Apple should explain. The problem is not our watches but the 8.3 software build.

No possible doubt about it and just Apple rushing out software builds that have not been tested.

I think even with my little experience this is software crap.

This *just* happened to me today, too! I have a 40mm 6 that is about 16 months old and a 41mm 7 that was new in December. I often wear the 6 overnight and the 7 during the day. I usually have cellular turned off on my 7 and don’t take calls on it much.


This afternoon I was working and around 3pm my 7 just *dies*. I get a message that my battery is drained and it prompts low power mode. I had to drive home and get my 6 off the charger and prod the 7 to even charge! (They both sit on the 7 fast charger.).


This had NEVER happened before — the 7 would go almost 2 full days for me without needing charged before this. It *has* to be software.


I will be talking to Apple directly about it (my nearest “genius” bar is 45 miles away, however). I’ve barely had the 7 a month and until today, I was in loooove with it. So sad!
