Battery drain on watch series 7

I just got the apple watch series 7 a couple of weeks ago and have been experiencing short battery life. Even with most functions/ background app refresh etc turned off, the watch can only last 10 hours after a full charge. It can barely get through a work day. Battery % drops close to 10% per hour.

Have tried resetting, unpairing etc, hasn't worked to resolve this issue.

This happened on watchOS 8.1.1 and 8.3.

Does any one else have this problem?

I agree. It drove me nuts too!

I ended up making an appointment with the Genius Bar because all other methods had failed me.

Was told that the watch battery was likely discharging abnormally.

Exchanged it for a new one - battery life seems ok on this one. But I will try it out for a few days first before making any conclusions.

That is actual fact. Yes it was not what we were all told when we bought the Watch in October last year. In fact we were told that we could always use our old Watch and iPhone and 3rd party USB a chargers and no need to take the USB c charger lead out of the box.

True from when it was delivered but ended Dec 13 2021 8.3 and got worse with not only charging but draining issues too but not since.

I change my Apple Watch serie 5 because of the battery drain, I thought it was old so I just bought a serie 7 yesterday, but the battery only last for 9 to 10 hours and I turned of almost everything, I didn’t have that problem with the serie 3 or 5 until the last software update, I am very sad because during the day I can charge my watch so I am have of the day with a watch that doesn’t work, Apple needs to fix this problem

Only trouble with that is any update that Apple Rolls out does not choose which Watch it decides to foul up as of yet.

Also this started last Dec and was just a not charging problem and has now become a not charging and worse a draining issue too. who knows what happens next ?

The charging issue is manageable by various means especially the 3 USB C to USB A adapter from eBay or Amazon which solves the problem almost completely.

The draining is a worse problem and causing a lot more grief.

I have same issue. Went to genius bar 3 times. Changed watches, etc. still horrible. If I don’t wear it and leave it overnight it drains only 10% in 8 hours. Then I put it on, and it drains over 10% per hour. I turned so many things off, that I really don’t need the watch. My apple 4 was perfect and never drained. My wife has the 41mm apple 7 and it is fine.

There is some issue and they will not address it. We can’t all be wrong. I may give it back.

rete my post. Everything has. Even tried multiple times by Apple master trained employees as well as myself. I even replaced my 12 pro with a 13 pro to eliminate a phone issue. Believe me when I say it’s inconceivable that any one person would have this experience with so many watches. I don’t want this issue to be true but I can tell you it is. I had a series 6 and never had one issue but I traded for the 7 for the bigger screen and new color and I wish I had it back! There is someone else in my household with a series 7 41mm that isn’t having any issues at all!!

I know some think I’m ridiculous but actually I’m just determined to figure out why the battery sucks so bad on the series 7. I’m currently in number 7. Yes that’s correct, my 7th series 7 watch. Apple tech support scheduled a call with me at 1pm today to go over suggestions from the engineers or whatever they call them, but as usual my watch was dead by noon. Fours hours is all I get per full charge. They rescheduled until tomorrow at 6pm. I don’t have much faith that there will be a solution now but I want apple to acknowledge the issue so I’ll keep bugging them!!! I have a series 6 coming Friday and if it behaves like all the 7’s, then I will give up on Apple.. I have owned many apple phones and watches and have never had any issues. I wish I hadn’t traded my 6 to begin with!!!!

If I literally don’t use the series 7 watch besides wearing it, it lasts a day. As soon as I have a workout after midday exceeding 75 minutes with parallel listening to Spotify, my watch drains completely.

i have run every trouble shooting, I don’t use always on display, turned off all notifications etc.

I actually consider it a joke to have to turn off features which are marketed as special on a newer version such as always on display.

in short I find it simply unacceptable for a gadget of this price tag to not last a day and have customers have to waste their time trying to fix a product which Apple should simply not release with such flaws or fix in an appropriate timeframe.

I feel your pain and displeasure, and I had the same problem. One Apple support tech had trouble figuring out what to do, but a second tech suggested that I "unpair" and then "re-pair" my watch and phone, and everything has worked since then. Phone is down to around 50-70% by the end of the day (using the regular battery setting, not the "low battery mode"), so I'm quite relieved. I just wish that the Apple tech support could have come up with this sooner. Anyway, I hope this might be useful to you. Good luck.
