cannot connect apple watch to serve as a remote for apple TV

I am trying to connect/ pair my Apple Watch with my Apple TV but the Apple TV does not 'see' my watch.

My Apple Watch is running 8.3

My Apple TV is running 15.1.1.

Both are connected to the same Wifi system of my home.

I have restarted both devices.

I have tried and followed the instructions exactly. I select to 'add a device' on my watch and check on Apple TV to select my watch. My watch is not available for selection.

What else can I try to get this working?

Yes, these are indeed the instructions I followed exactly.

In step 3 of these instructions there is no Apple Watch shown. So that is where I get stuck.

How could it be that my Apple Watch is shown by the Apple TV? (both on the same wifi network)
