Are back ups to an external HD via Time Machine susceptable to security breaches?

Are back ups to an external HD via Time Machine susceptable to security breaches?

I have been thinking i need to back up to two drives, always keeping one disconnected from the internet, just in case of some ransomware attack. is this necessary? i worry that Time Machine isnt fully recognizing this...(switching external hard drives).

For a robust backup strategy if you value your user data—

3-2-1 Backup Strategy: three copies of your data, two different methods, and one offsite.
