If you have received a new SIM card to go with your new iPhone, then be sure to contact your carrier so that the cellular service can be transferred to your new SIM card. Your carrier will walk you through the process.
On the other hand, you can try using your old working SIM in your new iPhone if both SIM cards are the same size.
