built in speakers not showing as sound option

I started having trouble with audio on my MacBook Pro 2017 Monterey 12.1. While troubleshooting, the built in speaker option disappeared from the Sound Preferences box and the volume controls on my Touch Bar are now greyed out. Restarted, no change. Help.

Hi Dalai Drama,

We understand that you're having audio issues with your MacBook Pro, so we'd like to see how we can help. It appears that you've reviewed: If the internal speakers on your Mac aren't working, which is a great step. To further isolate the issue, create another administrator account to see if you notice the same issue. Here's how: Set up users, guests, and groups on Mac.
