Hebrew on macOS Monterey

I recently switched to macOS and encountered a strange thing: some file names in Hebrew would become corrupt. Most characters would appear as 'x', with some letters showing up as random characters. This applies to file names as well as content inside those files.

I would very much appreciate any help on how to resolve this.

I've included screenshots showcasing what I'm experiencing.

The file I see when I go to your link has the x's and not Hebrew in its name. When you go to that link, do you see it differently?

Missing fonts should not cause this kind of problem if everything is being done in Unicode Hebrew, which has been the standard for quite a long time now. The letters should still be there and readable but the font would not be what the author chose.

I don't know what could generate x's like that. Are you able to contact the people who produced it?

I have no experience with Moodle, but filename corruption is something that is not uncommon when stuff gets transferred between various systems. But those two pages seem like something that was more likely botched at creation. I would think others would see that too and have complained to the author.

What do you mean by "filename is unchanged"? Do you see the original filename or the skewed one?

Just checked the same file on my windows machine, the filename appears fine, but indeed pages 39-40 are faulty on windows as well.

I am also getting the following message about missing fonts:

Could this be related to the filename being skewed on my machine?

This is what I see too when I go to that link.

This file is basically the lecture notes I downloaded from the course's Moodle website using my Mac. As soon as I downloaded it, it got formatted that way. Then, I uploaded it to my google drive from my Mac, which is why the filename is skewed on that link.

I can try contacting my lecturer, however I'm not sure how helpful this could be.

Could this problem be due to something happening during the upload to Moodle/downloading from Moodle to my computer?
