Google Meet Connection Issues (MacBook Pro M1-Pro)

I recently bought two MacBook Pros (base model 14" & a custom 14") with the new M1 pro chip. I love many things about these devices, however, I am having a continuous issue when using Google Meet. Every time I use Google Meet during a call, usually 15+ minutes into the call both of my MacBooks says there is a connection issue and automatically kicks me out of the Google meet call. I've tested this on numerous occasions and scenarios, and I've come to the hypothesis that there is something wring with the MacOS which is resulting in me being forced off of multiples. However, I have also tested this on multiple "non-mac devices" such as my Asus and I haven't had a single "connection issue" as I run them simutaneously and separately.

I would really like to keep these MacBook pros, however, I am planning to return them as soon as possible if this issue isn't fixed. Any advice or is anyone else having these issues?

The strangest thing is, I'm having the same issue. I have the Macbook Pro Max w/ 32GB Ram. In testing I have tried:

1) Multiple Browsers

2) Google Meet Chrome App

3) Multiple Internet connections

4) Tested it w/ a wired Internet connection

Triage leads me down this route, while on calls (you'll need to be using the Chrome App, or Chrome by itself) you can pull the Troubleshooting and Help window up

Keep that up during your calls to check what's happening when both the bandwidth and CPU usage rocket and start to cause issues.

In both options 1, 2 and 3 - I get the same results, no matter what I try.

With me: my calls are functional calls - as in - I'll be on one, and working during it to get conclusions, dig around and end the call when things are working again. Not just a simple meeting. As soon as I start to use other applications that need network traffic of any kind, that's when the trouble starts. This happens regardless of the Internet connection, home, office, coffee shop, tethering - you name it - I've tested it, all tests come down to it being an issue with the M1 Macbook Pro. It doesn't do it on my Intel 16", nor does it do it on my Intel Mac Pro or iMacs I have available to use. It also doesn't seem to happen with Zoom or Skype.

I'm at a loss as trying to explain it seems like over-kill 99% of the time, but if I am doing a call and the only machine I have in front of me is the M1 Macbook Pro - I need to dial in on my phone to ensure I don't get kicked or have everyone else hearing a robotic version of me while I talk.

In option 4 - this issue doesn't exist. Only if I'm on wifi does this issue creep in.

Glad someone else is having this in some ways though - not just me going mad. What's the issue Apple? The wireless network card on these machines not up to it? You know what they say once there are three machines with the same issue.

Similar here. MacBook Air M1, Google Wifi, Google Chrome, Google Meet.

I have great WiFi, but sometimes when using Google Meet (and ONLY it) Wifi drops from 100Mbps to 0.1 Mbps and will stay that way till I reset the computer...

This is a big issue - Google Meet call on Safari on MacBook Pro M1 Max 64GB RAM and 500 Mbps Wi-Fi Internet access consistently dropping (as many as 4 times during an hour call). Monterey 12.3.1. Apple please look at this. Far from Solved.

My Mac is a MacBook Air 2019 Core i5, 8 GB RAM running macOS Monterrey 12.2 and I've got the same issue under Firefox (my daily driver) and Safari. YouTube also has issues under Firefox so I will claim there are some Google shennanigans involved. I will try downloading Chromium and MeetInOne to check if using those solves anything.

I also checked with my brother who hasn't upgraded from Mojave on his 2014 MBA and says he's got no issues with Google Meet under Firefox. He uses it daily for school so I believe him.

Strange, our office is 90% intel based macs; ran a test of them all - only the M1s had the issue (that's now over 20 MBP w/ M1s 1st and 2nd gen).

Is anyone from Apple even looking at this to come back to us with an update?

exactly the same is with us (me and friend) so we tried already on several: iMacs and macbookspro, old ones and 2 brand new (bought 2022)

every group and even one to one meetings are not possible (connectivity issues) and at the same time ZOOM works just fine

What macOS version are you running?

Which browser are you using for Google Meet?

- Safari

Does the issue occur in another browser?

- Yes.

Are you experiencing connection issues only with this specific website or do you experience the issue with any other video services or apps such as FaceTime?

- Facetime works great. Google Meet is the other video chatting platform which I'm having problems with. I'm having some reloading issues with Figma. It continuously says, "This webpage was reloaded because it was using significant memory". This is evidently specific to RAM, however, I'm not running anything other than a few tabs on my browser.

Side note: This happens on my 16GB RAM M1-Pro & my 32GB RAM M1-Pro. Not sure what's going on.

Interesting. I've even tried it in other locations in the house and even tried on another Wifi router and I'm still having this issue. I'm running macOS Monterey 12.2.1.

I hope Apple is working on a fix as this becomes annoying just constantly dropping in and out of calls.

I have the same problem, why Apple does not care about their customers. I am so disappointed with Apple. I was so excited about my new MacBook but I have been having several issues with it, when called Apple Support, they also weren’t helpful!

No solution which has been discovered as of yet. I actually bought 4 MacBooks in the last 30 days, and I've had the same issue with every single one. (I'm returning them all)

Not a solution, but a workaround.

I've been using the app MeetInOne to do my Google Meet calls and had no disconnect issues so far (few weeks already).

Same issue with my 2020 Intel MacBook Pro. So not just an M1 issue. Really want this fixed as its such a pain to deal with.

Yeah, makes working a pain. My brother just got a new iPad Air, so I'm thinking I might start using his old one for my Google Meet calls now since the MacBook has become basically useless for it.

I have the same issue on my M1 Pro 16". Today the issue happened 3 times, I can't imagine what is happening on Safari.
