iPad 1 Cannot Connect to iTunes Store

I have an iPad 1, Model MC497LL, running IOS 5.1.1. I have found apps for it but when I try to install the icon shows on the screen with a progress bar and then fails in install with a message Cannot Connect to ITunes Store.

I have a good internet connection.

Can somebody help me?

Also, how can I load movies onto it from my PC?
