When I try to log into my son's Comcast (Xfinity) account, I get the message "Unable to verify account name or password." I know the account name exists and the password is accurate, because I can log into that account via Xfinity email in web browser.

I had Comcast mail forwarded to my Yahoo account in Apple mail and now no issues.
I've had a pair of Comcast email accounts for years and they have been nothing but trouble.
I'm constantly having to re-enter passwords, having server availability issues and so forth and so on. I still have the accounts because one of them is where Comcast sends official notifications of various things. When it works.
I can't really get rid of them because Comcast is my ISP, but I learned my lesson with regards to email: I now use Yahoo and iCloud. Far better experience with them. FAR better!
Agreed. But my son’s Apple account is tied to comcast.net :-( , so he gets notifications from Apple there. Plus some personal stuff. My comcast accounts work well across 3 cpus and an iPhone and iPad.
Are you adding this account to the Mail app? Or are you trying to make the existing account work?
First I was trying to make it work. Then thinking it would work better if I started fresh, I deleted the account from Mail and then attempted to re-add it.
Some other factors: I have Attempted to do this procedure both in system preferences and in mail. And I know the password works because it works on the Xfinity webpage
Obviously it's your choice and that's the way it should be. My situation was same as yours until I changed it. All I'm saying is I find Comcast to be a pain not worth it, so I changed it. YMMV.
