Can I use FaceTime with my iPad?

We bought our kids a new iPad for Christmas and we don’t want to link it to our existing account. Can we create a new Apple ID and still use the iPad to FaceTime?

Getting FaceTime on an old Ipad I am trying to have my son do FaceTime on my Old Ipad but it will not take my apple id. Not sure why any help would be appreciated because I have to let him use my phone to talk to his friends. Not sure which version of this is. Thanks
