Apple ID profile photo

when I go into the settings, there is always no photo, although a friend on his device is fine (I have a profile photo installed)

Follow these important steps:

Open Settings
Tap your name from the top of the list
Tap your photo to change it

All done. — — You’re good to go! 😉

It's fairly easy to set it back, the thing is: why does it go away? It is the third time I had to set my profile picture since I switched to mac (a year aprox.). Should I be setting my profile picture back every few months for the rest of my days as an apple user?
